Beautiful Runaway Bay, Jamaica

Where is it?

Jamaica is an island located about 700 miles southeast of Miami, Florida, a little over three hours flying time from Houston, Texas and not much more from New York. Runaway bay, on the north shore of the island is about 90 miles south of Cuba.

What is it like?

Possibly the friendliest English-speaking island in the Caribbean, it's a country of cascading rivers, waterfalls, tranquil streams, towering tropical hills and deep valleys. There are miles and miles of informal white beaches and an infinity of sports, both on top of the turquoise water, beneath it and beside it.

The island is 150 miles long and about 55 miles wide, with 2.5 million extremely proud people. The famous Blue Mountains provide a division of the beaches and forests on either side and these higher regions are generally much cooler and wetter than the coast. Kingston, the country's capital, is on the southeast shore. The major tourist activity is concentrated on the north coast.

Lifestyle is comfortably casual and usually with class. An independent nation for more than 20 years, basic elements of the previous British system have survived in their court system, parliamentary government, and in a love of cricket, polo and afternoon tea.

Jamaica is a land where the food is unusually delicious and the service outstanding. If this is your first time, you'll realize a new meaning for the song, "Come Back to Jamaica" and you'll want to "Make it Jamaica..." again and AGAIN!
